Henry Bobby

Henry Bobby was born on 7th Sept 1823 and Baptised at Diss Wesleyan Chapel on Christmas day 1823. He was the fourth child but second son of William Bobby.  In 1841 he was living at home in has fathers shop in Half Moon Street and described as a tailor. By the late 1850s he had opened his first shop in Market Square (now Market Hill) and was married, in 1847 to Ellen  He was by far the most successful of the Bobby’s and it was his shop that survived until the 1960s. He died quite suddenly in August 1887 and left the not inconsiderable sum of £3,400. His business was taken over by his widow and then his son. Unlike his brother James he remained true to the Wesleyan Methodism of his family as did his son.
